Josh Jacobs Denies Handcuff Gesture Was Part of His Touchdown Celebration

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has pushed back against suggestions that his touchdown celebration during Thursday night's game was a reference to his recent legal situation.

Josh Jacobs Denies Handcuff Gesture Was Part of His Touchdown Celebration

After scoring, Jacobs placed his hands behind his back, prompting some viewers to interpret the gesture as an imitation of being handcuffed. The reaction drew attention because Jacobs recently returned to the field after being placed on paid leave following a no-contest plea connected to a domestic violence accusation made by his girlfriend.

Jacobs, however, said the gesture had nothing to do with the allegations.

Jacobs Explains the Meaning Behind the Celebration

Speaking after the game, Jacobs explained that the television broadcast showed only a brief portion of the planned celebration. He said he and teammate Savion Williams had discussed the routine in advance and based it on the gospel song “Break Every Chain.”

“They didn’t even get the whole celebration,” Jacobs said, criticizing how briefly the moment appeared on the broadcast.

Jacobs explained that his previous touchdown celebration was intended to thank God, while the latest one was supposed to reference the gospel song.

He also suggested that the media had interpreted the brief clip without seeing the full routine.

Jacobs Still Faces Potential NFL Discipline

Although Jacobs' paid leave has ended and he has returned to the Packers, his disciplinary situation is not necessarily over.

He remains subject to a possible unpaid suspension under the NFL's personal conduct policy. The league could still review the circumstances surrounding his legal case and determine whether further action is warranted.

For now, Jacobs maintains that his touchdown celebration was planned as a religious reference rather than a gesture connected to his legal troubles.
