Bayern Munich Boss Vincent Kompany Discharged From Hospital After Collapse

MUNICH, Germany — Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital after being diagnosed with meningeal irritation following his collapse last week, offering the Bundesliga champions encouraging news about his recovery.

Bayern Munich Boss Vincent Kompany Discharged From Hospital After Collapse

The 40-year-old Belgian was admitted to hospital on Friday after collapsing while watching Bayern's second team train. Club director of sport Max Eberl confirmed his discharge on Wednesday ahead of Bayern's German Cup match against Magdeburg.

Speaking to German broadcaster ARD, Eberl said Kompany was doing well under the circumstances and would now focus on rest and medication.

"Given the circumstances, he's doing well," Eberl said. "He was discharged from the hospital [Wednesday]. That is the biggest and best news for all of us."

Eberl added that the condition had caused Friday's incident but expressed confidence that the coach would eventually return to the touchline at full strength.

"It's a meningeal irritation that caused this incident on Friday. He will now rest and take medication, and I am certain that he will very soon be back on the touchline, operating at 100%."

Kompany Faces Recovery Period After Health Scare

Kompany had reportedly been suffering from a viral illness before the incident. His collapse raised concerns about his health and temporarily kept him away from his managerial duties.

Eberl had previously indicated that the Belgian would need weeks rather than days to recover, suggesting Bayern were preparing for an extended absence rather than an immediate return.

The club has not confirmed a specific date for Kompany's comeback. His recovery will depend on his condition and the time needed to regain full fitness.

Meningeal irritation refers to irritation involving the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. The diagnosis alone does not establish a specific underlying cause, and Kompany's medical details beyond the information released by Bayern have not been publicly confirmed.

For now, his discharge from hospital represents an important step forward.

Aaron Danks Continues to Lead Bayern in His Absence

Bayern have managed their recent fixtures without their head coach on the sidelines.

Assistant coach Aaron Danks took charge for Saturday's 3-1 Bundesliga victory over Freiburg and remained in the dugout for Wednesday's German Cup encounter with Magdeburg.

The team continued its strong run by defeating Magdeburg 6-1 at the Allianz Arena, advancing its campaign in the domestic cup competition.

Kompany's absence has therefore coincided with two convincing victories, although the club's immediate priority remains ensuring that its head coach recovers fully before returning to work.

Bayern have not announced whether Kompany will be available for their next fixture.

Harry Kane Reveals Kompany's Message of Support

Despite being away from the training ground, Kompany remained in contact with his players.

Harry Kane revealed that the Bayern manager called him on Monday morning to wish him luck ahead of his Ballon d'Or win in London that evening.

The gesture offered a glimpse of Kompany's continued involvement with the squad during his recovery.

Kane has been a central figure for Bayern, and the call demonstrated that the coach was still keeping in touch with his players even while receiving medical care.

Bayern Prepare for Crucial Borussia Dortmund Clash

Bayern's attention now turns to Saturday's Bundesliga showdown against Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena.

The two sides are level on points at the top of the league table, with Bayern leading on goal difference. The meeting could therefore have important implications for the early title race.

Whether Kompany will be able to return to the touchline for the match remains uncertain. Bayern will continue to rely on their coaching staff while allowing him the time needed to recover.

His hospital discharge provides a welcome development for the club, but the focus remains on his health rather than rushing his return.

For Bayern supporters, the hope is that Kompany can make a full recovery and resume his duties when he is ready.
