Steelers Dominate Browns 27-6 to Take AFC North Lead and Extend Home Streak to 23 Games

The Pittsburgh Steelers delivered a physical statement against their division rivals, defeating the Cleveland Browns 27-6 to move into first place in the AFC North and extend their regular-season home winning streak against Cleveland to 23 consecutive games.

Steelers Dominate Browns 27-6 to Take AFC North Lead and Extend Home Streak to 23 Games

Pittsburgh (6-2) controlled the game on both sides of the ball, rushing for 200 yards and recording eight sacks against Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. The victory also tied an NFL record for the most consecutive regular-season home wins against one opponent. The Green Bay Packers previously won 23 straight home games against the Detroit Lions between 1992 and 2014.

Jaylen Warren led the Steelers' ground attack with 143 rushing yards and a touchdown, matching his career high on his 28th birthday. Rico Dowdle added 56 yards and a first-quarter touchdown as Pittsburgh's offensive line consistently opened running lanes.

The result was especially satisfying for the Steelers after Cleveland defeated them on the road a month earlier. It also followed a week of public confidence from the Browns, including comments from defensive end Jared Verse, who had suggested Cleveland was ready to make Pittsburgh its territory.

That confidence did not translate into Sunday's performance.

Steelers' Offensive Line Sets the Tone

Pittsburgh's offensive line answered the pregame criticism with a powerful performance. The Steelers rushed for three touchdowns, matching a total they had not reached at any point earlier in the season.

Dowdle opened the scoring with a nine-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, giving Pittsburgh a lead it never surrendered. Warren repeatedly found room against Cleveland's defense, while the Steelers added points on four of their next five possessions.

One of the game's biggest plays came just before halftime. With five seconds remaining and no timeouts available, Pittsburgh decided to run a tush push with tight end Pat Freiermuth. The one-yard touchdown gave the Steelers a 20-6 advantage.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said the team had tremendous confidence in its offensive line, which powered the play across the goal line.

Pittsburgh extended its advantage early in the third quarter when Aaron Rodgers connected with 6-foot-7 tight end Darnell Washington for a 58-yard reception. Washington's long gain set up Warren's one-yard touchdown run, putting the game firmly out of Cleveland's reach.

Watson Under Constant Pressure

The Steelers' defense made life difficult for Watson from the opening possession. Pittsburgh recorded eight sacks and consistently disrupted Cleveland's passing game.

Watson finished with 324 passing yards, although much of that production came after the Browns had fallen behind. He briefly left the game in the first quarter after taking a late hit from Pittsburgh safety Jaquan Brisker.

Shedeur Sanders entered for a short stretch, but his appearance ended with a fumble by Harold Fannin Jr. Cleveland lost another fumble on its following possession, adding to an increasingly difficult afternoon.

The Browns struggled to establish their offense against Pittsburgh's pressure, while the Steelers' defense prevented Watson from producing the late-game comeback performances he had delivered earlier in the season.

Verse's Challenge Goes Unanswered

Verse had drawn attention before the game by questioning Pittsburgh's offensive line and suggesting Cleveland could take control of the rivalry.

However, the Steelers' front seven and offensive line dominated much of the afternoon. Verse finished with just one assisted tackle.

He stood by his earlier comments after the loss but acknowledged that Cleveland had failed to deliver the performance needed to back them up.

Verse also criticized an incident involving Steelers left guard Mason McCormick, who drove him head-first into the ground during a Pittsburgh field-goal attempt in the first quarter. McCormick was penalized for unnecessary roughness and said he had not realized Verse was the player involved.

By the fourth quarter, Pittsburgh had built a three-touchdown lead, leaving little room for Cleveland's pregame confidence to change the story.

Steelers left tackle Troy Fautanu said there was little more to say when the score stood at 27-6.

Browns Coach Calls Loss a Learning Experience

First-year Browns head coach Todd Monken admitted his team did not perform to its capabilities.

Monken described the defeat as a learning opportunity for a young team, emphasizing that NFL teams must prove themselves through their performances every week.

Cleveland entered the matchup with a 5-2 record but left Pittsburgh at 5-3, while the Steelers improved to 6-2 and claimed the division lead.

Injury Updates

The Browns also dealt with injuries during the game. Defensive tackle Maliek Collins suffered an elbow injury in the first half, while cornerback Tyson Campbell was evaluated for a possible concussion.

What's Next?

Cleveland will look to respond when it travels to New Orleans next Sunday.

Pittsburgh has a bye week before returning to action against the Cincinnati Bengals on November 15.

The Steelers now have sole possession of the AFC North lead, while their remarkable home dominance over Cleveland continues.
