Victor Wembanyama Explodes for 52 Points and 24 Rebounds in Spurs' Thriller Against Mavericks

Victor Wembanyama produced one of the most extraordinary performances of his NBA career Wednesday night, recording career highs of 52 points and 24 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a dramatic 112-111 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

The Spurs superstar also added eight blocks, delivering a dominant performance on both ends of the floor as San Antonio secured its sixth consecutive win.

Wembanyama's remarkable numbers placed him alongside some of basketball's greatest players while helping the Spurs survive a late Dallas challenge.

Wembanyama Makes NBA History

Wembanyama was already having a historic night before halftime.

He finished the first half with 29 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks, becoming the first player since the NBA's play-by-play era began in 1996-97 to record at least 25 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in a single half.

His full-game performance placed him in even rarer company. He became just the second player since blocked shots became an official statistic in 1973-74 to record at least 50 points, 20 rebounds and five blocks in one game, joining Bob McAdoo, who accomplished the feat in 1974.

Wembanyama also matched Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor as the only players in NBA history to record at least 50 points and 20 rebounds in a one-point victory.

Spurs Survive Dallas' Late Comeback Attempt

Despite Wembanyama's dominance, Dallas stayed within reach throughout the contest and nearly spoiled the milestone performance.

Kyrie Irving led the Mavericks with 29 points and had an opportunity to give Dallas a dramatic finish. However, his contested 15-foot turnaround jumper missed with just three seconds remaining.

Wembanyama also faced difficulties at the free-throw line late in the game, converting just one of four attempts during the final 2:10.

He made two important putbacks in the final 2:39, helping San Antonio maintain its narrow advantage.

The Spurs were significantly more effective with Wembanyama on the floor, outscoring Dallas by 23 points during his minutes. When he was on the bench, San Antonio was outscored by 22.

Spurs Get Valuable Support From Young Players

Wembanyama received important contributions from his teammates as San Antonio extended its winning streak.

Dylan Harper scored 21 points, while Stephon Castle finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Their production helped the Spurs maintain their advantage during a closely contested matchup.

Dallas also received balanced scoring. Naji Marshall led the Mavericks with 22 points, P.J. Washington added 21, and rookie Cooper Flagg contributed 19.

However, their combined efforts were not enough to overcome Wembanyama's extraordinary performance.

A Dominant Start Sets the Tone

Wembanyama established himself early, scoring 10 of San Antonio's first 12 points through two dunks and six free throws.

He ended the opening quarter with 15 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, two steals and one assist, immediately putting pressure on Dallas at both ends of the court.

The Mavericks took advantage when Wembanyama went to the bench early in the second quarter. They produced a 12-1 run, cutting San Antonio's lead to 49-48.

Wembanyama returned approximately four and a half minutes later and quickly reminded Dallas of his defensive presence.

In one remarkable sequence, he recorded three blocks in just 13 seconds during the same possession. His first two rejections sent attempts by Flagg and Washington out of bounds before De'Aaron Fox secured the rebound following the third.

San Antonio Continues Its Winning Run

The victory improved San Antonio's momentum, giving the Spurs six consecutive wins behind an increasingly impressive performance from their young superstar.

Wembanyama's combination of scoring, rebounding and rim protection made Wednesday's game a career-defining night. His 52 points and 24 rebounds were enough to secure the win, while his eight blocks added another remarkable chapter to his growing NBA résumé.

Dallas came close to stealing the game, but Irving's late miss ensured that Wembanyama's historic performance ended with a Spurs victory.
